Unintended Consequences

Gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos and Senate Candidate Michael Bouchard have run from the issue of the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative by claiming that it has “unintended consequences” and “goes too far.”  We challenge that by saying this:

Freedom always has unintended consequences.  Freeing the slaves had unintended consequences.  America did it anyway.  That’s what makes us the land of the brave—we will take on any trial as long as it ends in more freedom.

Affirmative action started as a benevolent mission to STOP choosing people by race.  President John Kennedy wanted to use “affirmative action” to make sure no person was chosen or rejected because of race.  The term has been twisted well out of proportion, and has now come to mean the opposite of its original intention.

Below is a list of unintended consequences of this inside-out application of affirmative action:  We challenge DeVos and Bouchard to explain how this list of repercussions is good for Michigan and America:

ABOUT “UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES”:
Affirmative action has had tragic unintended consequences!

A point from RaceFreeZone:  If you want to talk about unintended consequences, how about the unintended consequences of affirmative action:

Unintended consequence #1:  One quarter to one half of black college students in the United States fail to graduate after six years, because they are pushed into college above their academic level.  Their faces are counted as “diversity,” the college gets money for admitting them, then they fail and fade away.  The college then gets more money to “promote” diversity “better.”
Unintended consequence #2:  Any minority or woman who does achieve success is assumed to have been an “affirmative action hire,” not to have achieved success on his or her own merit.
Unintended consequence #3:  Endless parades of “front” businesses set up with a fake minority owner, while employing few or no minorities, getting set-aside contracts to the tune of billions of wasted dollars, for which the customers pay in a higher product price.
Unintended consequence #4: Reverse discrimination.
Unintended consequence #5:  Jobs and contracts denied to deserving white males.  States and municipalities spending far more money than is necessary on public works because they are forced to appear “diverse” by not hiring the best service at the best price.  Taxpayers pay the price for “diversity,” then must deal with an inferior product, which has to be replaced sooner.
Unintended consequence #6: American businesses shifting “ownership” on paper to a wife or a sister, in order that the business can pretend to be “woman-owned.”
Unintended consequence #7:  Uncounted billions of dollars spent to set up “front” businesses, technically “minority-owned,” but which only put a minority figurehead in as the “owner,” but are synthetic businesses, not possessing the 30 years of experience it takes to really provide a service.  Result: the cost of products we buy is much higher, because compensation has to be made somewhere for poor products from fake companies.
