Are women incompetent or is the State government sexist?
There are only two choices. According to the women featured on the One United Michigan website (www.oneunitedmichigan.org) and in ads broadcast on television, ALL of them have their jobs as a result of affirmative action. Even if we don’t get into the fact that they’re saying they used their sex or race to push a more qualified person out of that position, each of them is saying she would not have gotten the job had it not been for this program that put her at the front of the line. The question is: Were these women not qualified for their jobs? Should they not be where they are? Are they incompetent? OR are they saying that their employer is 1) sexist 2) racist 3)both and deserves to be condemned were it not for this special program?
Of course, it’s possible that these women are all incompetent. However, we at RaceFreeZone believe that America is full of women who have gotten their jobs strictly through merit, including the millions of women who went to work before the 1960’s and had long, full, successful careers. These women who demand special advantages that men or non-minorities are not given cause all women and all minorities, in any positions, to be seen with a jaundiced and suspicious eye.
There are two victims in any affirmative action hire: the most obvious is the person who was not hired because of his/her race or sex. The other is a class of victims—all the competent women and minorities who will never be given full credit for their achievements. They will live their professional lives under the pall of being “just an affirmative action hire.”
